I wish I had checked the reviews before buying this. It’s much smaller than I anticipated. The item arrived in a plastic ENVELOPE instead of a box, wrapped in several layers of tape and bubble wrap.
There’s no discernible sound difference between the bars; I could achieve the same effect by just tapping two wooden spoons together. I’m really disappointed. As someone who enjoys unique instruments, I was excited about this one, but now I feel taken advantage of.
The only positive aspect is that it looks nice. What a letdown! At least I’m glad I waited for the price to drop a bit…

My first impression was that it’s very pretty. I bought it for my 11-year-old son, who is a beginner percussionist learning marimba, thinking it would be a good practice tool. Since the price was so low, I decided to get two so he could teach others as well. However, when they arrived, I realized they are quite small and more suited as decorative items than actual instruments. They do produce different sounds per key and can be used like a xylophone or marimba. This could serve as a fantastic teaching tool, a toy for kids, a practice piece for beginners, or simply a lovely decorative item for music enthusiasts or teachers. Just be aware of the size before purchasing. I included a ruler in my picture for reference. I would definitely buy it again; it’s beautifully designed and crafted, and the price is excellent for what you get. I can see these being sold for double the price as a novelty item in a music shop.

The item arrived with inadequate packaging and was damaged upon arrival. I was able to fix it, but the wood blocks are not in tune after reattaching them to the string.

This item arrived after what I can only describe as a packaging nightmare. The “box” was delivered wrapped in a plastic bag with a label indicating it had been damaged by the post office, and I was really worried about what I would find inside. However, when I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised to see that despite the mold, the product itself was hardly scratched! The striking hammers were completely intact! After giving it a thorough cleaning with diluted bleach water, I’ve placed it on my windowsill to dry out after being so damp for a while. The design is stunning, and the wood is strong and thick! The tuning is slightly off, but I’m confident it just needs a little time to dry. This will make a fantastic centerpiece, and I can’t wait to play on it for years to come. For just $20, this was an incredible deal!

This decoration is fantastic! The sound is lovely, and I’m puzzled by the numerous negative reviews. I suspect many are from those expecting a North American xylophone, but this instrument is different, with a distinct note structure. It’s a solid little piece, about the size of a large dinner plate. While it was well-packaged, the box was oversized, allowing it to move around too much during transit (thankfully, the delivery service was careful). To avoid potential damage, I recommend using boxes that are better suited in size; one half the current size would be ideal.
Autotater –
First, the instrument arrived in an envelope—barely padded at all. It was poorly wrapped in a flimsy layer of bubble wrap and much of it was just covered in sticky tape. I’ve spent a whole day scrubbing with Goo Gone, trying to remove the sticky residue left on the instrument from the tape. It’s a mess. The unfinished wood has absorbed the adhesive, and I may never completely clean it off.
Second, the sound quality is disappointing. The soundboard is too small to resonate properly, even if the keys were tuned correctly—which they aren’t. The result is just a dull thud as wood hits wood, lacking any real musicality. Most keys produce the same clunky noise, while only one key manages to produce a vague note somewhere between C and C flat if played just right. The rest sound like a child banging wooden blocks together. It might entertain a toddler, but that’s about it.
Lastly, while it could serve as an interesting conversation piece, it’s not something you would want to showcase for its sound, which is virtually nonexistent. Don’t purchase this as an instrument; it’s not a musical tool at all. It’s really just a dust-collecting decoration, at best.

This is a stunning percussion instrument. The term ‘xylophone’ can be somewhat misleading; this is a true percussion instrument, not just a standard xylophone. If you’re expecting a typical rainbow steel xylophone, this may not be what you’re looking for. However, if you want a distinctive percussion piece to deepen your understanding and appreciation of global percussion variations, this is an excellent selection. It makes a wonderful gift for percussion professionals, teachers, or enthusiasts. It’s also a fantastic educational tool for students and children (focusing on world cultural instruments rather than nursery rhymes), but it is definitely NOT a toy. This instrument deserves a special place, serves a practical purpose in percussion, and acts as a great conversation starter. The science behind how different tones are produced by varying sizes and elevations of the wood is fascinating and adds to the learning experience and appreciation of percussion. The color is a rich, deep hue, and it arrived carefully packaged.

It looks great on the bookshelf, but I haven’t discovered much to use it for.
Kate Horton –
I had come across some negative reviews about this product’s functionality, so I decided to purchase it as a decorative item instead. In the end, I didn’t even get to see it because my order was canceled.
Amazon Customer –
It’s just a toy! It doesn’t match what was advertised at all!
MGT –
The product arrived quickly, but unfortunately, the “keys” lack any distinct notes regardless of how they are arranged. It looks like I’ll only be using it for display purposes. I’m quite disappointed.
Sally Shopsmart –
This piece is stunning and boasts exceptional quality. However, I’m unsure about the sound quality. While I believe it will find its place, to me, it leans more towards wood-on-wood rather than musical.
T. Crawford –
This is a fantastic decorative piece, but it falls short as a musical instrument. The pitch is extremely high, and the keys lack clear distinction from one another, often sounding less than a semitone apart. While there is a noticeable difference between the keys on the far right and left, making it suitable for rhythmic tapping, it’s not effective for playing melodies. I purchased it for my music classroom, but the kids hardly engage with it. It makes a lovely addition to my desk, and I highly recommend it solely as a decorative item.
