As a complete beginner with singing bowls, this is my first one, and I watched several YouTube videos to learn how to use it. I want to share my journey from the moment I received it, which might help other first-time users. When I first unboxed it, I was surprised by how small it was. I had read reviews beforehand and expected it to be small, but holding it in my hand truly highlighted its petite size. It felt almost too small to use comfortably, and I struggled to rotate the wooden stick around the edge, thinking it wasn’t designed to be held this way. Initially, I couldn’t produce any sound, but I later realized this was due to my lack of experience rather than the bowl’s size—it’s definitely a learning process.
The package included a note with a friendly greeting and a link to download instructions, but I found the website to be either nonexistent or incorrectly listed. After several attempts to locate the actual Ohm Store, I grew frustrated. Instead of panicking, I searched online for how to play a singing bowl and found useful tips about holding and using it. I recommend skipping the note to avoid a frustrating wild goose chase; I hope the Ohm Store can fix this issue in the future.
Once I became more familiar with the bowl, I still found it somewhat awkward to hold and play. The only sound I could produce initially was by striking the side. I placed the bowl on a bedside table and managed to play it that way, realizing I could hear it singing as I circled the striker stick. However, I felt the bowl was too small to use in my hand, and it kept sliding around on the table, which was not my intention. So, on the first day, I practiced by playing it on the table for a total of three attempts.
On day two, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could play it in my hand, although not perfectly. What changed? I believe it was simply getting to know the bowl better. I was no longer a stranger to it, and I started to understand the realm of sacred sound. The effort I put in on the first day didn’t go unnoticed; it felt as though I was making progress. I still felt a bit awkward, and I again had three tries for the day.
By day three, I decided to hold the bowl in my hand with my fingers open and not touching it, which gave it some height. To my delight, I was able to play it much better! The sound became increasingly louder as I circled the striker, creating a symphony of vibrations that flowed up my forearm. The key difference I noticed was familiarity; each day brings you closer to mastering the sacred sound. The bowl felt much more comfortable in my hand with this new technique.
In summary, after three days of use, I can confidently say this bowl is fantastic. I love it and feel grateful to have it. Kudos to the Ohm Store for creating such a beautiful piece at an affordable price. I highly recommend this bowl, especially for beginners. Ultimately, the small size isn’t a drawback; it doesn’t affect the bowl’s function or quality, and as a newcomer, you’ll experience a similar learning curve with any bowl. Plus, its compact size makes it easy to carry around!

Some reviewers have expressed concerns about the bowl’s size, which measures 3.5 inches at the lip and about 4 inches at its widest point, roughly two-thirds down. It fits comfortably in the hand.
The only downside to its aesthetic is the mallet, which appears somewhat cheap and has an uneven cut. It’s not very noticeable when placed inside the bowl, but I’m considering investing in a higher-quality mallet.
I was initially worried about how it would sound, as I had heard that cheaper bowls might produce a high-pitched, tinny tone or not resonate at all. Fortunately, this bowl emits a full, pure, vibrating mid-range tone that is a joy to hear. It’s surprisingly easy to make it sing; as a first-time user of a singing bowl, I figured it out in less than a minute. I’ve discovered that I can control the volume and vibrato speed by adjusting my circling speed and pressure, though I’m still experimenting. It can be played while held or resting on a felt ring, or you can strike it with the mallet for a sustained note lasting 10-20 seconds.
The primary tone of my bowl is around 619Hz (~D#5) when circling it, with a clear overtone at 1703Hz (~G#6) when striking the side. A quick tap on the top half can isolate this overtone. There’s also a more elusive overtone at 3172Hz (G7) that I can occasionally hear but haven’t been able to isolate yet.
Sound-wise, my only issue has been a soft scraping noise when the wooden mallet rubs against the bowl while circling. I attempted to remedy this by wiping and polishing the bowl with olive oil, which removed some oxidation, enhanced its sheen, and reduced the scraping. However, oiling made it a bit more challenging to get it to sing. Thankfully, after a couple of days, the bowl returned to being easy to play with minimal scraping.
Overall, this has been an excellent purchase. I’m very satisfied with the bowl’s quality, especially given its reasonable price. It now proudly sits on my shelf, and I often play it as I walk by.

The sound is relatively bright. The build quality is excellent, and the price-to-performance ratio is great as well. The tone lasts quite a while in hand, but it becomes muted quickly on the cushions. I will be testing them thoroughly.
